It’s Thirsty Thursday and since we cannot go out to enjoy cool and refreshing beverages for the next few weeks . . . . we will feature some of our favorite beverages you can make at home! There are so many to choose from, but this is one of our all-time favorites: “The Painkiller”. The Painkiller is one of the signature drinks at Bahama Breeze. It is a spin off recipe of The Soggy Dollar Bar in the British Virgin Islands. We have made The Painkiller numerous times in our house and it is always good. It is true we don’t always drink bourbon.
I have, of course, put my own twist on it using 3 different types of rum…Bacardi light, Captain Morgan’s spiced and Captain Morgan’s coconut (which is 70 proof not 42 like Malibu) I believe most places just use dark rum. Using a cocktail shaker (or you can use a blender) start with 1 shot each of light, spiced and coconut rums, add 3 oz of orange juice, 3 oz of pineapple juice, 1 tablespoon of coconut cream (which you can find in any store with their mixers) and a dash of cinnamon. Shake vigorously or blend on HIGH for 30-60 seconds. Pour over ice and top with a few shakes of nutmeg and garnish with pineapple. It’s that simple . . . . and it’s called The Painkiller for a reason which you’ll realize after you have a couple!
