Thirsty Thursday 4-16-20

It’s Thirsty Thursday again and we tried to come up with another bourbon drink to feature as our “quarantine cocktail”.  We thought we would try to make our own bourbon cream. 

For those of you not familiar with bourbon cream, it is similar to Irish cream just made with bourbon instead of Irish whiskey.  Just like Irish cream, bourbon cream is a great addition to your morning coffee…I mean evening time coffee and can be substituted in any drink that calls for Irish cream.

There are a couple of brands available in local stores. We have tried the Ezra Brooks bourbon cream, but like the Buffalo Trace bourbon cream best. It is a little stronger (at 30 proof), has a smoother finish and makes a great “root beer float”.  Mix 2 oz of bourbon cream to 4oz of root beer, add ice cream if you want to really go to town.  It is simple to make and most ingredients are common everyday pantry staples. 

Here are 2 different recipes, one is a regular and the other is a non-dairy option.

Reg recipe:
14 oz bourbon
14 oz sweetened condensed milk
1 cup ½ & ½ or heavy cream
2 tablespoons chocolate syrup
1 teaspoon instant coffee
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon almond extract

Place all ingredients in blender and blend thoroughly.  Keep refrigerated.

Non-dairy recipe:
1 ½ cups bourbon
½ cup coconut cream
½ cup non-dairy creamer
1 cup non-dairy sweetened condensed milk
2 tablespoon Vanilla extract
2 teaspoon almond extract
3 tablespoon honey

Place all ingredients in blender and blend thoroughly.  Keep refrigerated.
