Metro Detroit: Brighton’s Bourbons

There have been so many times, in the past few years, we have driven through the Brighton area on the way to showing clients homes. If you are not familiar with Brighton, the Downtown area (Grand River & Main St) has exploded with an awesome variety of eating and drinking establishments. Living in Livonia, we don’t typically get out that way when we decide to go out. We decided that we were going to make a special trip to try out a restaurant that we just knew we would love…Bourbons!

How could we not go to a restaurant called Bourbons? For those of you who know us you know what I mean. We have been told about this place by numerous people that know us and know we love bourbon. However this is not just about the bourbon - it’s about the food and atmosphere as well. Bourbons opened in early 2018 by the owner/operator Hana Filipovic after teaming up with her siblings Lou Lucaj and Elana Borg who own the Brighton Bar & Grill. Hana fell in love with the southern culture, food and attitude of “simple is good” while attending Georgia State University and wanted to open a place where people can experience that same “southern hospitality.”

Bourbons is welcoming. It has a vibrant atmosphere with an open layout so you don’t feel crowded. They do get busy so reservations are recommended, but not 100% necessary. The menu features many southern classics like Shrimp & Grits, Shrimp & Crawfish Etouffee and a Nashville Hot Fried Chicken Sandwich . Appetizers range from Hummus to a Fig and Pear Pizza as well as one of my favorites, which you don’t see everywhere, Pork Belly Burnt Ends. They have a Jambalaya soup which we didn’t have but saw it and it looked amazing. Of course we ordered the burnt ends and they had a Blackened Grouper Sandwich we had to try. And of course they have a pretty nice selection of Bourbons to choose from as well as a nice selection of craft drafts including a Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Aged Vanilla Cream Ale…YUM!!! We also tried their Chocolate Old Fashioned: Smoked Maple Knob Creek, chocolate bitters and a Luxardo cherry…a little sweet for my taste but really good. Next time I will try the Smoked Old Fashioned.

Bourbons is located at 440 W Main St at the corner of Main and 1st Street right across from Brewery Becker (sorry no relation) They are open Tues-Thurs 11AM–10PM, Fri & Sat 11AM– 1PM and Sunday for brunch from 10AM-3PM and closed on Mondays.

Until next time, eat well and enjoy life!
