Metro Detroit: Walled Lake’s Beach Tiki Bar and Boil

Located at the north end of Walled Lake, just east of Pontiac Trail, is a long standing restaurant that has been many names through the years.  My memories are from when it was Key Largos back in the 90’s. Today, it is the home to The Beach Tiki Bar & Boil

When writing these blogs, we do research for reviews from other patrons. We were shocked to find a bunch of negative reviews . . . but also a bunch of positive reviews. I found most of the bad reviews were for service not necessarily the food, so we decided to give them a chance. We were pleasantly surprised.  The service was good. They only had 1 server working at the time, and he was all over the place, which is why the service wasn’t great.  Having been a server for over 10 years, I’m more patient when a server is busy. It is not an easy job!

Of course we are there for happy hour, which at the Beach Tiki Bar is a little different everyday.

  • Monday is all day happy hour

  • Tuesday – Friday it is from 11AM - 6PM with $3.75 tall domestic drafts and house (or well) liquors, $2.75 short domestic drafts and $1 off craft beers.

  • Wednesday you can get ½ off seltzers and wine from 11AM – 6PM.

  • Also Monday thru Friday, from 3PM - 6PM, you can get any appetizer for $10, ½ off glasses of wine and $8 craft cocktails

We had a couple tall draft Labatts and an order of their beef nachos which are made with beef and refried beans.  We are always reluctant to get nachos, since you typically end up with a plate of neglected chips . . . you know, the chips at the bottom of the pile with no cheese on them.  This was not the case with these nachos!  They layer the cheese, making sure the chips underneath get the same cheese as the top of the nachos, and they came out just the way we like them. They are topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, black olives, jalapenos, guac and sour cream, a delicious sloppy mess.

The menu offers a lot of choices. They have their seafood boils, featuring everything from crawfish to lobster tails all at market price . . .

They also have a wide variety of appetizers ranging from chips and salsa to seared Ahi Tuna, tacos, wings, salads, a variety of other seafood choices that aren’t boils.  There’s a good list of entrees, sandwiches, Wagyu beef burgers and of course Pizza.

The Beach Tiki Bar & Boil is located at 142 E Walled Lake Dr and opens daily at 11AM when they start their happy hours.

Until next time . . . live well, eat well and enjoy life!
